I've made it to Korea!
My flight could not have gone smoother.
Gerald and Jessica feel like long lost friends and have rolled out the red carpet to welcome me.
My students are the cutest! They kept calling Jessica and I ‘Old Jessica’ and ‘New Jessica.’

I called the Korean Consulate about my Visa...
Consulate Lady: 여보세요?
Me: Hi, I called earlier about my visa and I just wanted to make sure it was mailed today.
Consulate Lady: I remember you. I said I'd mail it so I'll mail it.
Me: Ok, but it's 5pm and I don't have any tracking updates.
Consulate Lady: Can you hold?
Me: Ok, sure.
Me: (waits a long time....)
Consulate Lady: Ok, what do you want to do?
Me: Uh, I want to make sure you will mail it tonight, so I can get it in the mail tomorrow, otherwise I will come and pick it up tomorrow.
Consulate Lady: How many times do I have to tell you that I'll mail it?! I have many other visas to process!!
Me: I just need to be sure it will arrive tomorrow because I am flying on Wednesday.
Consulate Lady: (silence)
Me: So, you are sending it tonight??? (Again, it's 5pm)
Consulate Lady: sigh... yes.
Me: Ok, (unsure) thank you.
I keep getting the feeling that my visa isn't even processed yet and she's just sitting there pissed off at me now. Fuck.

I called the Korean Consulate about my Visa.
Consulate Lady: 여보세요?
Me: Hello, I'd like to check the status of my visa.
Consulate Lady: Ok, when did you send it and what is your name?
Me: It should have arrived on Friday the 3rd, (says and spells name).
Consulate Lady: It got here the 10th?
Me: No, the 3rd. (CRYING INSIDE)
Consulate Lady: Who signed for the delivery?
Me: It says 'Kim.'
Consulate Lady: Ok. I will send it today.
Me: Whew ok, good because I leave on Wednesday and I was getting worried.
Consulate Lady: You can come pick it up...
Me: I paid for overnight shipping, do you think it would get back to me on time?
Consulate Lady: Was it through UPS?
Me: Yes.
Consulate Lady: Ok, I'll send it.
Me: Ok, but you're sure......?
Phone line: ...........
BUT LADY ARE YOU SURE?!
The woman who answered the phone was nicer than the last one, but you'd think they would be a little more organized when it comes to handling with people's passports and visas.

I need to find a way to relax.
I’m not feeling as calm and collected as I’d like to feel 4 days before leaving the country.

I don’t have my Visa yet (!!!!) and as of now, there is no info about my Overnight UPS tracking label. I will call the Korean Consulate on Monday morning and ask about it. I’ll drive there to pick it up if I have to.

Today is my Birthday,
so my ex-stepdad (whom I’d prefer not contact me, because he does inconsiderate shit like this) sent me a Birthday text including photos of my beloved doggie and kitty that I haven’t seen in 5 years. FFUUUUUUU.
My kitty is doing well, but my doggie has arthritis and allergies and licks his paws too much. Poor runty baby, I love you.

it can be nerve wracking speaking korean here, but once korean person knows how you sound it’s fine (b/c they’re not used to hearing second language speakers try their language), however sometimes they can’t process that ur speaking in korean
I need to jump over the mental hurdle of not having perfect pronunciation....
